DESCRIPTION OF THE MONUMENT Visit Date: 10/APR/1981 This saddle backed bridge which dates from 1752 is built of stone with low stone parapets. It is a single arch and crosses the River Ryburn which at this point divides the townships of Barkisland and Soyland. Single arch stone bridge having stone parapet walls surmounted by iron railings. Weight limit 5 tons. Stones of the arch are rebated from superstructure on N side with chamfer on S side without. Visit date: 21/AUG/1985 Waterloo Bridge is stone built and hump backed about 6ft wide, 6 ft long and 30ft from the water. It has a single high rounded arch with recessed keystone edges and plain vault beneath. The parapets are narrow, about 2.5ft high and have 2 ft high railings on top of them. The parapets widen out on the approaches at each end. The roadway across the bridge is paved with stone sets. On the E bank is the village church and yard and the rest of the area around the bridge is occupied by buildings.
