The Choice Based Letting Scheme (CBL) introduced by Calderdale Council in partnership with Pennine Housing 2000 offers people who want to rent a house in Calderdale more choice over the type of home and area they wish to live in.
In Calderdale, Pennine Housing and Abbeyfield run extra-care housing schemes. The schemes are made up of self-contained flats and other facilities all under one roof.
The Housing Options Service, based in Halifax Customer First, at Horton Street, Halifax, offers free and confidential advice to anyone who has housing problems, is homeless or threatened with homelessness.
There are several housing associations who have properties to rent in Calderdale.
In April 2006 the Government introduced the HomeBuy initiative. This is a government funded programme that helps people who wish to buy a property but cannot afford to do so. HomeBuy schemes are designed to help first time buyers or people in other priority groups (such as social housing tenants) where household incomes are less than £60,000.
The vision of Calderdale Supporting People (SP) is: "To provide high quality housing support services, to give people in Calderdale the opportunity to live independently".
