Full description:
House now outbuilding. C16 and C17. Timber frame clad in coursed squared stone. Single storey, 3 bay aisled hall with added 2-storey aisled cross-wing. North front: hollow-chamfered mullioned windows throughout. Hall has C19 door to bay 1; to bay 2 a 2-light window (mullion removed) and a blocked chamfered, quoined, Tudor-arched doorway; gabled bay 3 with a chamfered arched light, a 2-light window (mullion removed) and to right an inserted door. Wing on right has C19 door on right of blocked 3-light window with 2-light window above, all mullions removed. Rear: cart-entry and former 3-light window on right with 2 C19 windows above; aisle breaks forward to left with a 5-light window (mullions removed); cross-wing has a tall blocked 4 or 5-light window with 3-light window above and base external stack on left. Right return (cross-wing): a 2-light window on left. Interior: hall: aisle posts with curved braces to aisle-plates and tie-beams; south aisle mid-rail has mortice in soffit for panelling below and retains studs with wattle and daub above. Truss on left has stone/walled infill and king post with V struts. Central truss has king-post sawn off and replaced by queen struts. Truss against cross-wing has mortices for panelling and, above tie-beam, for both V and upright struts, the king-post again sawn off. The different sets of mortices show the truss was closed in two different ways during its history. There is a gap between this truss and the studding of the cross-wing wall which suggests 2 different builds. Cross-wing: in rear room lateral chamfered quoined fireplace with massive lintel.
