Full description:
Road bridge. Dated 1864. Contractors P Berry and Son, Sowerby Bridge. For Major R Stansfield of Field-house (q.v.). Stone and cast iron. 2-span bridge with central stone pier cut to a triangular face on west side and rounded on east side. Causeway base has sunk panels with raised pattern. Flanking causeway, are square end and central piers with pyramidal caps, the central piers having floral-decorated bases and carrying plaques with the bridge's name, contractor and patron. Between piers are railings of crossed diagonal, vertical and horizontal struts with a patera to centre of each cross. The open iron-work construction was designed to allow flood water to pass through. Sowerby Bridge Civic Society, (Sowerby Bridge Trial), p8.
