Full description:
House, part now separate cottage. C17, of several builds, with C16 core. Coursed squared stone with timber framed core; stone slate roof. Hall with cross-wings, aisled to rear (north) and with wing added to front (south). 2 storeys, 4 bays. Garden, (south) front: 3 gables, the left one 2-bay and with eaves lower on right. Left wing: plinth. Double-chamfered mullion windows, on ground floor of 4-lights, 9-lights with king mullion, and 3 lights (now door) under continuous dripmould; on first floor of 3 lights and 6 lights with king mullion each under a dripmould, with arched light to right. Break in masonry between this and next bay which has: chamfered doorway with tie-stones, now window, on left of 4-light, now 2-light, double chamfered window under roundel-stopped hoodmould with similar 2-light window above under heart and lozenge stopped hoodmould. Right wing, breaking forward, has 3-light chamfered window with similar 2 + 3 light window above (mullions removed). c1980 lean-to porch to ground floor right. Rain water spouts between gables; kneelers; moulded coping; finial bases. Rebuilt stack to right of bay 3, 2 others to right end of ridge of hall behind, one rebuilt the other truncated; one to ridge wing, and one to left of ridge of bays 1/2, the latter corniced and with diamond set flues. Rear: left wing: a 3-light chamfered window; inserted window above. Hall: moulded basket-arched doorway with ogee-moulding to lintel; small 2-light chamfered fire window; 9-light double-chamfered mullion and transom window with king mullions; roof comes down low over aisle. Right wing: inserted window and stop chamfered door on right. Left return: a 3 + 3 light single-chamfered window to left; a 4-light now 2-light double-chamfered mullion window above; a chamfered arched light to first floor right with a rainwater spout to its right. Right return: a 4-light double-chamfered mullion window to ground floor left and surround of another to right. Interior: hall: large C17 moulded segmental arched fireplace; arcade posts with curved braces to plate; on left (west) original closing truss has mid rail with close studding above and curved braces; collar rafter with two queen strut trusses, the central truss having tie-beam with moulded soffit. Left (west) wing reported to have panelling to front (south) ground floor room, chamfered cross-beams and central truss with heavily jowled posts, cambered tie-beam with morticed soffit for former partition and king post (RCHM).
