Full description:
Row of 16 weavers' cottages and attached outhouse range. Late C18 (dated 1797) and early C19, of several builds built up from west to east. Coursed squared stone, stone slate roofs. L-shaped cottage range, No. 1 in the right gable of the long range, Nos. 15 and 16 forming the short wing projecting on left, with single storey outhouse range extending leftwards. Cottages. 2 and 3 storeys with cellars, each cottage 1 bay. Openings have plain stone surrounds, windows with flat faced mullions. Nos. 15 and 16, the earliest cottages: 2 storeys; 2 doorways flank a 3-light window with inserted window to right and two 3-light windows above; plaque over door of No. 15 inscribed 'New Longley 1797'; stack to right end of each. Nos. 13 and 14: 2 storeys; each has door to outside of 2-light window on each floor, No. 13 with C20 wood and glass porch, No. 14 with window inserted above door; shaped gutter brackets; stack to right end of each. Nos. 9-12: 4 paired 3-storey cottages, each pair with paired central doors flanked by 3-light windows on each floor, mullions removed from all except blocked 2nd-floor window of No. 10; Nos. 11 and 12 share blocked taking-in door to centre of 2nd floor; plain gutter brackets; ridge stack to centre of each pair. Nos. 7 and 6: 3 storeys; each has door to outside of 3-light window on each floor, mullions removed; end stacks. Nos. 2-5: 4 paired, 2-storey cottages, each pair with door to outside of 2-light window on each floor, mullions removed from windows of Nos. 2 and 5, inserted 1st floor windows to Nos. 3 and 5; c1975 porches and C19 coal holes to Nos. 3 and 4; stacks to centre of each pair. Rear: various single-light openings to cellars, and some 2- and 3-light windows. Right return: No. 1, on right, has doorway to right of inserted window and blocked 2-light window above. Outhouse range on left has various door and window openings with plain stone surrounds and pent roof.
