Full description:
Church, 1860 by T. Rushforth. Gothic revival. Nave, chancel, south transept chapel and west tower. Hammer-dressed stone and steep slate roof. Windows with geometric tracery, paired to the nave. East window of 3-lights, transept window of 4-lights. Sanctus bellcote. Tower of 3 stages, unbuttressed, terminating in four squat pinnacles. Belfry windows of 2 louvered lights. Interior: 4-bay arcade with early French Gothic capitals. South aisle has leanto roof and is lit by triple circular windows each of 3 lobes. Arch to transept chapel now blocked at lower level by organ. Chancel has north aisle forming a chapel, reached by two arches pierced tympana. Sedilia under round arch. East window has marble shafts with rings as has the chancel arch. Stained glass of the crucifixion in this window. Open roof to arch-braced trusses springing from carved corbels. Furnishings: Pulpit with stubby shafts of different marbles. Choir stalls with round arched arcading from St. John, West Vale (q.v.). H.M.
