Full description:
House. Dated 1618. Large dressed stone, stone slate roof. Hall-and-cross-wings plan. The wings have coped gables with kneelers and project to south but are flush with hall range to north. 2 storeys. All are double chamfered mullioned windows. South front of 6 divisions. 1st is west wing which has 5-light window with hoodmould over which continues across the hall range, but not across the east wing. 5-light window to 1st floor with hoodmould with straight return. Unusually long hall range has central doorway with basket arched lintel inscribed with date set within a tressure. This leads into a through passage. To left, 2nd division has 6-light housebody window with 5-light window over reduced to 3 lights with small glazed panes. Over door is 3-light window. To right, 4th division is 3-light window. 5th division has inserted doorway next to 3-light window with same over. 6th division is east wing which has inserted doorway in its west wall with 2-light window over. South gable has 5-light window (lacking 2 mullions) with hoodmould which carries round right hand return wall. 2 former 2-light windows to 1st floor. Left hand return wall has 2-light window reduced to doorway. Right hand return wall 3-light window lacking mullions. Some mullioned windows survive to rear which has doorway of similar character to front bearing date. 3 stacks; one each to cross-wings, one backing onto through passage of hall range. Interior: At far end of through passage is basket arched doorway which leads into housebody which has Tudor arched fireplace, reeded floor joists and oak panelled division wall between west wing of plank and muntin type with reeded stiles. The head beam of this, which is heavily curved to one end has pegholes indicating it may be re-used cruck blade. Chamber over has Tudor arched fireplace and king post truss with 7 'V'-struts. Southern room of west wing has fireplace with depressed Tudor arched lintel and stop chamfered jambs.
