Milestone. Early C18. Single stone monolith, stop chamfered corners. Script of C18 character inscribed to 3 faces much weathered and indistinct reads: (east face) "TO, Hal, fax, 9 Ms" (probably Halifax) (north face) "TO, BU, e, 7 Ms" (Probably Burnley) (west face) "TO, oach, lale, 6 Ms" (Probably Rochdale) Set against the south wall of a double walled track leading to a packhorse way to Cheshire known as the Salter Rake Gate near to its crossing with Withins New Road.
