Full description:
(formerly listed as Lower Laithe and Barn and Lower Laithe Cottage) Large group forming 3 dwellings. Early C18 cottage has attached mid C19 house to west. To east is mid C20 link to late C19 coach house much altered, providing additional accommodation to Lower Laithe Cottage. This coach house is of no interest. 2 storeys. South front of 4 bays. 1st 3 bays formed by symmetrical house in ashlar with stone slate roof. Quoins, sill band to ground floor only, eaves cornice. Doorway has architrave and segmental pediment. Over, and to outer bays, are sashed windows with plain stone surrounds, the sills of which project. Hipped roof lacks chimney. 4th bay is cottage which has watershot masonry, dressed quoins, stone slate roof. Large 5-light C19 flat faced mullioned window with 8-light double chamfered mullioned window over. This face has disturbed stonework adjacent to quoins and has window bottom of C17 character from earlier house. Right hand return wall has added mid C20 porch in keeping. Over is 1st floor taking-in door (blocked) to left of large double chamfered mullioned window, formerly transomed of 10 lights originally now of 5 long lights. It is possible this end was connected with textile manufacture. Under this window is double chamfered mullioned window of 4 lights (2 mullions removed) of C17 character. Plain Venetian window (solid) to apex. One C20 stack at division of house from cottage.
