Full description:
Sundial. Stone face 1617 re-set on new plinth 1911. Ashlar weathered plinth set diagonally on octagonal flagged base is inscribed: 'RE-ERECTED 1911' and bears the Armytage coat of arms in relief to north face. South face inscribed: 'SEMPER, PARATUS, SED SINE, SOLE, SILEO'. (I am always ready but do not speak without the sun.) The re-set dial has inscribed chapter ring dated 1617 between which is the Armytage coat of arms under which are the initials 'IAW'. Left hand segment is inscribed: 'CORRIGE PRETERITUM, REGE PRESENS, CERNE FUTURU(M), ' (Learn from the past; regulate the present; discern the future.) Right hand segment is inscribed: 'UT HORA ), SIC VITA ) FUGIT'. (As the hours fly, so flies the day).
