Full description:
House. Long range with early C17 house to left with large dressed stone, and late C18 barn and attached cottage in hammer-dressed stone, stone slate roof. 2 storeys. C17 house of 3-room plan with projecting cross-wing to left hand end; though under cat-slide roof of main range, this may have been gabled originally. Through-passage plan. Cross-wing has double chamfered mullioned window of 4 lights (with hollow chamfered mullions) with same over. Hoodmould to ground floor window. Main range has double chamfered mullioned window originally of 4 lights with 2-light fire-window. Doorway has square headed lintel with composite jambs with moulded surround. To right of door is 4-light chamfered window with king mullion. All windows altered in part to main range and lack original mullions. Over is stepped string course which terminates abruptly where barn is attached. 1st floor has remains of 3 small chamfered windows of 2 lights. One stack to ridge. Interior: Evidence for smoke bay is preserved in opening between hall window and fire-window for bressumer, and roof retains collar for hood. Very large corbel in cross-wing. The original plan would possibly have been parlour, housebody and service room separated by through passage (internal wall now gone). Barn has watershot masonry and cart entry with segmental arch, huge jambs with tie-stones, over is Venetian window. To left are two 2-light mullioned windows with plain stone surrounds, the left most broken through to form doorway the other altered. Over are 2 identical windows lacking mullions. One other 2-light window has been inserted (late C20) in keeping to right of Venetian window. Paired doorways with composite jambs (are now blocked) and flat faced mullioned window of 4 lights with same over. Quoins to the angle with gable stack. Right hand return wall has attached single storey out-building with quoins, doorway with composite jambs and flat faced mullioned window of 2 lights. Coping to top of wall with cat-slide roof parallel with main range.
