Full description:
House, dated 1684. Large hammer dressed stone, stone slate roof. 2 storeys. South front of 4 vertical divisions. 1st has 6-light chamfered mullioned window. Break in stonework between 1st and 2nd division. 2nd, 3rd and 4th divisions each have double chamfered mullioned window with continuous hoodmould. 1st floor has chamfered mullioned windows. All lack some or all mullions. 4-light window with 2-light window over to 1st floor; C19 doorway with monolithic jambs taken out of former 5-light window, 3-light window over to 1st floor; 4-light window. Left hand return wall has single storey lean-to rebuilt 1984, 3-light double chamfered mullioned window over to 1st floor. Rear has 2 doorways. One with straight lintel and chamfered surround the other (blocked) with shaped lintel which bears date set within a tressure, of similar design to Oakes, Erringden (q.v.) less than half mile distant. Gables have kneelers but lack coping. 2 truncated stacks to ridge. Interior not inspected. C.F. Stell, p.150, 238, 299.
