Question and responses from the Cabinet meeting 2 June 2025
Councillor Blagbrough asked:
Please could you provide an update on the construction of the new Halifax Leisure Centre at North Bridge? I understand that the Cabinet Member responsible was recently unable to confirm a start date for the works. Does this mean that further delays are expected, or is the planned opening date of early 2026 still on track? Additionally, could you please confirm the status of the old Halifax Swimming Pool on Skircoat Road? Thank you.

Councillor Dickenson asked:
Local Halifax businesses have said the disruptions caused by Phase 2 of the A629 Halifax Town Centre Western Corridor Project are severely impacting their livelihoods. They report a significant drop in footfall, with fewer visitors coming into Halifax due to the ongoing congestion. The Western Corridor Project is due for completion in late 2025. Whilst the Conservative Group supports this important investment to revitalise Halifax, please provide reassurances that the Western Corridor Project remains on track to finish by that date and confirm that work on subsequent phases will not begin until the current phase is fully completed as initially promised, because overlapping construction works would only exacerbate the challenges faced by local businesses and residents.

Councillor Prashad asked:
On Tuesday 27th May at the Planning Committee Meeting, planning application 19/01452 came before the committee and was permitted. There was a compensatory amount agreed for the lack of affordable housing on the site due to its size.
My question is why is it that compensatory monies for housing developments may never reach the residents of the area being developed, surely any monies received from the developer should be ring-fenced to guarantee local residents feel the benefit.
