Reallocation / Appeal request to Secondary School 2025
Introduction
If you are not happy with the school place your child has been offered, you can request that your child's name is included within a reallocation list for any places which may become available after 3rd March 2025.
- If reallocation is requested at a higher preference school than has been offered, then the school offered can be retained
- If reallocation is requested at a lower preference school than has been offered, or a school which was not originally preferenced, the higher preference school must be given up. (This will not guarantee a place for your child and the place given up will be offered to another child)
- If a school has been offered which was not originally preferenced, then you may request reallocation to any school, without having to give up the place offered.
Reallocation lists (waiting list) will be maintained until 31st December 2025.
Please complete and return this form. Notification of the outcome will be in writing by 29th March 2025. Details regarding this will not be provided over the phone.
Appeals
If you have been refused a place at one (or more) of your preferred schools, you have the statutory right of appeal whereby you can submit details of your reasons for requesting a particular school. An Independent Appeal Panel has the discretion and authority to admit a pupil above the published admission number.
Parents should note that a school place can be accepted whilst pursuing an appeal for an alternative school.
- The Local Authority is responsible for arranging appeals for community schools. These schools are:
- Todmorden High School.
- The governing body / academy trust is responsible for arranging appeals for foundation comprehensive schools and academies. To request an appeal for one of these schools, you may either write directly to the Clerk to the Independent Appeals Panel, c/o the relevant schools address, by 17th March 2025 or indicate your intention to appeal overleaf. This information will then be passed to the school after the initial reallocation period and appeal documents will be sent out. The schools within Calderdale which fall into this category are:
- Brighouse High School
- Calder High School
- Lightcliffe Academy
- Park Lane Academy
- Rastrick High School
