This display board was exhibited, along with a solid silver and tortoise-shell casket, which was presented to Princess Louise when she visited Brighouse to open the Smith Art Gallery.
The gallery takes its name from William Smith, a local tweed manufacturer and the first Mayor of Brighouse. Rydings House, where the gallery was located, was purchased in 1898 for use as a public library and was later modified to include an art gallery. The gallery was opened amid much fanfare on May 25th, 1907. Both the Art Gallery and Brighouse Library are still thriving on the same site in 2014.
