Throughout the war the British government urged members of the public to assist the war effort by purchasing war bonds. War bonds were a type of investment whereby the government used any money that was invested to purchase munitions to be used on the battlefields. The scheme captured the imaginations of the British people with specific weeks being dedicated to fundraising. Halifax's fundraising week, known as "Tank Week" took place in the third week of March in 1918, and included a special visit from Egbert, a tank that had been used in action on the Western Front.

After the war the government decided to present surplus tanks to the many towns and cities who had worked so hard to raise money to help the war effort. Halifax was to receive Egbert, who would reside at Rock Hollow Park.

The image to the right of the screen is an invitation card for the official tank reception, which was to take place on Saturday November 22nd, 1919 and was to be attended by the Mayor of Halifax and Brigadier General R.P. Benson.
