Swift Place was erected by the Swift family in the early 17th Century. Some initials and a date are carved above the main entrance: SMD 1626. It was subsequently owned by the Hoyle Family for the latter part of the 17th century, and Hoyle initials are carved in various places around the property: ESH 1698, ESH 1704 and on the barn ESH1714. The courtyard and gates are notable features.
Articles on Swift Place appear in the Halifax Antiquarian Transactions dated 1903 by H P Kendall, September article, and also in Views of Ancient Buildings in the Parish of Halifax, 1879
