This photograph was amongst those taken of old halls and homesteads from across the Parish of Halifax in 1937 by local photographer and antiquarian Hugh Percy Kendall.
The rubble-stone house was built by the Stancliffe family about the middle of the seventeenth century.It came to be abandoned due to the access becoming impossible other than a horse and cart being able to traverse the winding road from the hill top.
