Situated to the north of the town centre the land was once part of the Camm Estate and was sold in 1867 to the Parish of St James, to build a church. The building was demolished in the early part of the 20th century and was replaced for a short time with a cinema owned by Electric Animated Picture Company.
The Park was bought by the Brighouse Corporation in 1935, and is still used for galas and pubic events.
