Parts of Elland are now a Conservation Area with many listed buildings, and include the medieval street pattern and buildings around the Cross, Rose & Crown Inn and St Mary's Church. The canal and riverside area includes the waterways, bridges and adjoining buildings. The southern section of the Conservation Area encompasses mainly Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian buildings, but with remnants of earlier Elland.
