Now demolished, this mill was owned by the Fielden family of Todmorden, local philanthropists and industrialists. 'Honest John' Fielden
(1784-1849), started life as a mill worker, eventually opening his own works and becoming a wealthy businessman. He
became a Radical MP for Oldham four times in the early 19th century. He was responsible for many social changes and improving the conditions of his workers. A statue of him is in Centre Vale Park.
