Photograph of late 15th century building construction at Deerplay, below Mill Bank in the Ryburn valley.

Originally a timber construction, afterwards cased with stone, Deerplay is an example of late 15th century timber architecture, when building techniques were changing parallel to the economic revolution occurring at the time.

The photo was taken by Hugh Percy Kendall, one of the founder members of the Halifax Antiquarian Society, and reproduced in the HAS Records for 1907. He was also a former president of the Halifax Photographic Society. He died in 1937 at the age of 62.
