Mytholmroyd is one of the smallest towns in the Calder Valley, and the UDC was set up after the Local Governmemt or Parish Councils Act of 1894. This Act introduced rural and urban district councils and parish councils for villages with populations of 500 or more. Before this, smaller towns and communities were organised via Local Boards.
