This centenary record of William Edleston Ltd. Sowerby Bridge, covers the years 1848 - 1948 and includes an introduction to the manufacture of woollen cloth from Roman times which refers to the influence of the Flemish weavers. The main theme, however, is the progress of this particular firm from its early days when William Edleston founded the manufacturing side of the business. His father Robert Edleston had been concerned only with the dyeing and finishing of cloth. The record shows how the firm grew with new developments over the years in all its departments culminating in its modern plant and methods in 1948. Some of the social and welfare changes are outlined in an addendum. The book includes many period graphic motifs and typography, as well as lots of photographs of people and machinery.
The volume was designed, written and produced by J J Mulroy, who was a commercial artist and antiquarian.
