The book contains extracts from the Hull Customs' Rolls, and complete transcripts of the Ulnagers' Rolls. From the 14th century, ulnage was the tax paid on guarantee of quality and size of the cloth, and the ulnager was the inspector who tested and gave the cloth an official seal.
