A chapel was originally built here in 1798, after the death of John Wesley, when 5000 Methodists left the Wesleyans to form the Methodist New Crusade. The temple was rebuilt in 1815 and again in 1877.
Demolished in 1970 to make way for the inner relief road. The Methodist community moved to new premises in Richmond Street, Halifax.
