Lithograph of view of Halifax from Stoney Royd, showing early industrialisation and expansion of the town over the gently sloping western side of the Hebble valley, with the Parish Church to the right of the picture.

Stoney Royd, to the south east of the town, was once part of the landscaped park of a fine Georgian house and was purchased from the Rawsons in 1860 for £10,000 and was opened as the Halifax Corporation Cemetery in 1862. After the original Stoney Royd house was demolished, a Fever Hospital, or isolation hospital, was built in the grounds of the cemetery - this is also now demolished.
