Roads and highways maintenance

Road adoption

Calderdale Highways are responsible for more than 1000km of adopted highway. We ensure these highways are routinely inspected and all necessary repairs are carried out. Private (unadopted) roads are not maintainable at public expense. The maintenance of these roads is usually the responsibility of the landowner or owners of adjacent land. Private roads may or may not be subject to public rights of way. As such, unadopted roads usually consist of dirt or rubble tracks. Many do not have basic services such as drainage or street lighting.

To find out if a road is public or private, please use the search.

The results will display the status of the road.
