This photograph was amongst those taken in 1937 by local photographer and antiquarian Hugh Percy Kendall, as part of a series capturing old halls and homesteads across the Parish of Halifax.
It seems most often to be referred to as 'Nolson' House, though sometimes 'Nelson' is used. The origin of the name is uncertain.
