The first leaflet of a series produced by the Countryside and Forestry Unit of Calderdale Council.




The village lies high on a plateau near the present boundary of Calderdale and Kirklees. The name means 'stony land'. Holywell Green also has a long history and is recorded as a hamlet in the township of Stainland back in the middle ages.
