Goathouse was the building originally bequeathed by John Wheelwright in 1724 as a school for up to 20 boys and girls working on his estate. The first mention of the building was recorded in 1577 when Edmund Firth occupied the building.
A new school was built in 1827 (the one pictured in the engraving), and the earlier school is now used as the present Rishworth School's chapel. In 1925 the grammar school was opened. New buildings were added in 1930, 1933, and in 1950. Heathfield Mansion was purchased and converted to a junior school. The swimming pool was opened in 1964.
Still standing 2003.
