Mulroy's book is a collection of short pieces depicting various aspects of life in Halifax over two hundred years. These include the making of the town, local industries, the Duke of Wellington's Regiment, and local football and cricket.
The book is illustrated with line drawings by the author, who was a commercial artist and antiquarian, and by photographs. The front cover shows a full colour image of the Halifax coat of arms. The volume was produced to coincide with the centenary of the borough.
