Homes of the Working Classes with Suggestions for their Improvement (Document ID: 100919)

Title page of book about workers' housing conditions and improvements in 19th century England.

Author: James Hole
Date: 1866
Location: Britain
Format: Topographical Survey
Document ID: 100919
Library ID: 27557036

Hole's book is similar in form and content to Edward Akroyd's 'On Improved Dwellings for the Working Classes' (1862) and contains a collection of plans and views of housing intended for working people. Unlike Akroyd's book, it covers a number of schemes in which the merits are compared. This rare volume clearly demonstrates the importance which some employers placed on the comfort and well-being of their workforce.
