Passage describing the beauty of the Calder Valley, though William Cobbett does highlight the fact that the agricultural living and working conditions in this area were among the worst he had found.
William Cobbett travelled the length and breadth of the country describing the conditions he found amongst the labouring classes. He was a radical reformer and his writings added fuel to the increasing demand for the improvement of working conditions. He visited Halifax and lectured there in 1830.
