Two photographs from c. 1936 showing construction of the site for Park Lodge Housing Scheme: one of digger filling truck with soil and with worker(s) around, the second showing masonry and cement mixers ready for work to begin.

Ovenden is a district of Calderdale to the north of Halifax. It was the first place municipal housing developed in Halifax after World War I, and continued in phases until well after World War II. In 1946, Halifax Council planned to build housing, schools and other facilities at Ovenden. Since the 1950s, much of Ovenden has been developed into housing estates.
