Deigned by architect H. Scott Davis, it was unveiled on the 15th of October 1922 by Sir George Fisher-Smith. The structure stands at 25 feet (7.6 m), and is in honour of the local soldiers who died in World War I. Originally at Belle Vue Park, it was moved in the mid-20th century to its present site in Duffy Park, also known as Cripplegate Park, near the Parish Church.
