Southowram Prize Band was founded in 1901 and closed 1938 when it was felt that an amateur band of this size would have cost approximately £150 per year to run.
The band won a special prize for cornet playing at Crystal Palace in 1923, and was one of the best bands in Calderdale in the early 20th century.
