Salterhebble is to the south of Halifax town where the Hebble valley meets the main Calder valley. It is an ancient crossing place and the name may point to the existence of an early salt trade route or saltway from Cheshire.
The Hebble valley carries the main southern access route to Halifax town from the Calder valley.
The picture is early 20th century, showing the garage at the bottom of Salterhebble Hill. The site is still occupied by a petrol station today [2002]. Behind the garage are houses along Jubilee Road, which leads up to Siddal.
