Education Welfare

The Education Welfare Service provides a channel of communication between home and school and between parents and the Local Authority. The service covers:

  • school attendance
  • education at home
  • exclusions
  • holidays in term time
  • child performance and entertainment licences
  • work permits and employment of children guidelines.

The team has responsibilities in respect of pupils who experience deprivation or discrimination, together with those who are disaffected or have special educational needs.

Each Calderdale school has a named Education Welfare Officer who, working in partnership with school staff, seeks to develop a constructive and mutually supportive dialogue involving parents, pupils and other services to help pupils attend regularly, behave acceptably and make a positive and beneficial contribution to the life of the school community.
