Todmorden Town Twinning Association

Town twinning enables people from usually neighbouring countries to exchange regular visits. Members stay in each others homes, experience each others way of life and lasting friendships form between families and individuals.

Todmorden Town Twinning Association (TTTA) helps by organising the group travel arrangements. They introduce Todmorden people to their hosts in our two twin towns:

  • Bramsche (western Germany);
  • and Roncq (northern France).

They also arrange accommodation, events and entertainment for groups visiting Todmorden.

Formed in 1978, the TTTA continues to successfully exchange annual visits with groups of between 30 and 60 people, making us the envy of Calderdale, as well as many much larger towns and cities elsewhere. Our continued success depends on attracting new people to join, especially younger families, who live in or around the Todmorden area. We also encourage local organisations to take part, such as football teams, music groups, Judo and Tennis clubs, etc.

We prefer members to go on trips to either Bramsche or Roncq (or both!), as well as be hosts for visitors when they come here. Do not worry if you are unable to accommodate visitors, you can easily help out in other ways. We are as flexible as possible, aiming to successfully "twin" people together according to age and interests, as well as accommodate those who may want a different host next time.

To encourage young families, children 14 or under travel for 50% of the full price. Youngsters not with their own families, up to 15 years old, can only travel if a named adult on the trip accepts full responsibility.

TTTA is made up of an elected Chairman, a Management Committee and social sub-committee who work together for both Bramsche and Roncq. There is a secretary for Bramsche and one for Roncq. An AGM is usually held in February each year to elect officers. TTTA is bound by a written constitution.

Why not get involved?

Applications for membership are invited from all Todmorden residents, or within reason, the surrounding area. Also, any organisation or body based in the town.
