Calderdale Musoma Association

In October 1992, Calderdale Council, working with voluntary organisations and residents of Calderdale, formally launched a twin link with Musoma town council at a ceremony attended by the Tanzanian High Commission.

Since 1992 we have been able to assist an officer of Musoma Town Council to complete a business studies course at Huddersfield University, with help from "Tools for Self-Reliance", sewing machines have been collected and refurbished by people in Calderdale and sent to a co-operative in Musoma. Also schools in Calderdale and Musoma have established contacts through exchanges of greetings cards and photographs between pupils.

With your help we would like to undertake small scale but effective projects in Musoma in the fields of:

  • Business advice
  • Health provision
  • Education links.

We are also enthusiastic to arrange visits to Musoma, particularly for young people, to provide the opportunity to experience Africa through Exchange projects, gap year projects etc.

Ideas for the future

With your help we would like to undertake further small scale but effective projects in Musoma in the fields of:

  • Improving the water supply
  • Business advice
  • Health provision
  • Education links.

But in order to move forward, the group needs new members, as existing ones leave the area or pursue other interests. If you think you would like to become involved, or just want to know more we would love to hear from you.

Mixenden Activity Club

A group of young 'peer mentors' from Mixenden Activity Centre are hoping to visit Musoma as part of an expedition to Tanzania in July this year.

They are currently hosting fundraising events throughout Calderdale in order to make the trip possible.

Why not get involved?
