The Local Newspapers & Events Index, 1830s to 1950s
The Local Newspapers & Events Index is partly an index to articles in local newspapers and partly an index to the dates of particular events.
The Index’s origins lie in a set of alphabetically organised hand-written notebooks compiled by employees of the Halifax Courier newspaper. We are grateful to the Halifax Courier for their work, quite some years ago, and also to the small team of Calderdale Libraries volunteers, who, in 2016-17, converted the contents of these notebooks into the pdfs available here.
The Central Library in Halifax holds, on microfilm, most of the newspapers referred to in the Index.
If you find something in the index which interests you and you want to follow it up in the newspaper, you can visit the Central Library & Archives in Halifax. Alternatively, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a copy (for a small charge). This email address should also be used if you have any queries about the Index.
