The Reference Department in the Central Library started as part of the private library of Joseph Horsfall Turner, a local historian and writer. Material has been added over the years and the collection continues to grow, as a result of purchases and donations.

It offers access to resources concerning the development and history of the Calderdale area. Much of the collection is kept behind the scenes, but the library catalogue and themed listings, plus help from staff, ensure access to it as required.

All material is for reference only, although copies of some items may be available in the Lending Library.

Central Library resources are bought to you by Reference and Local Studies. For more information email us at reference.library@calderdale.gov.uk or ring us on 01422 392631.
