Calderdale's history is available online. A wide range of photos, maps, census returns, parish registers, poll books, wills and newspapers have been digitised for easier access. This includes the pages of the Halifax Courier for the years 1914-1918.

The Piece Hall

The Piece Hall, Halifax was built as a venue for merchants to display and sell their pieces of cloth. This listed building has now closed to undergo an exciting transformation, funded by Calderdale Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund, and is due to re-open in 2016.

Pay a visit and climb the internal spiral staircase. Take in the great view from this fabulous and ornate, 77 metres (253 feet) high Victorian chimney!
