Bikeability

 

Bikeability Level 1

For riders who are looking to develop skills ready for a journey on the road. You will gain basic cycle control skills including starting and pedalling, stopping, manoeuvring, signalling and using the gears on your bike. The training takes place in a traffic free environment either in a playground or fire station drill yard.

  • Held at Calderdale schools and Halifax, Illingworth and Todmorden fire stations during school holidays.
  • Suitable for 7-10yr olds
  • Bikes and helmets are available
  • One day course
  • Funded course
  • Includes a badge and certificate on successful completion

Bikeability Level 2

A two day National Standard Level 2 Bikeability course. An introduction to the road covering bike maintenance, road position and signalling – for children age 9 to 14. The course starts in the traffic free environment and progresses onto the roads. The course aims are that you are able to deal with traffic on short journeys, such as cycling to school.

A packed lunch required, bikes and helmets available, but if you have your own bike please bring it.

Bikeability Level 3

A two day National Standard Level 3 Bikeability course for 11-15year olds. For experienced riders covering bike maintenance, route planning and riding on busier roads.You will be able to deal with all types of road conditions and more challenging traffic situations. The course covers dealing with hazards, making ‘on-the-move’ risk assessments and planning routes for safer cycling.

A packed lunch required, bikes and helmets available, but if you have your own bike please bring it.
