Countryside Formal Volunteer

We currently run three formal practical volunteering work parties a week, which take place on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Volunteers undergo an induction on their first day and expenses are covered for our formal volunteering opportunities.

Countryside Community Day Volunteer

If you just want to turn up and have a go at some practical work, once a month we run various informal volunteering opportunities across the Calderdale countryside. Our sites include:

  • Norland Moor
  • Cromwell Bottom (Brighouse)
  • Ogden Water
  • Cunnery Wood and Beacon Hill (part of Shibden Park)
  • Beechwood Park (Illingworth)
  • Scar /Long Wood (Halifax).

Ogden Water Visitor Centre Volunteer

Ogden Water Visitor Centre is open 7 days a week and is run by volunteers.

Bridge End Community Garden Brighouse

Complete Entrance Gateway Fences and Gates Install 8 raised planted areas each one being 4 metres2.

Relay flags and create a community seating area for community engagement.

Install 120 M3 Extensive areas of low maintenance recycled wood chip.

Community areas at Vale Street

Plant Mini orchard of 30 dwarf fruit trees.

Creation of Bug Hotel from recycled pallets and waste materials.

Install pieces of interactive artwork linking into vegetable growing and sustainability acting as environmental Information.

Safer, Cleaner, Greener Volunteer

Numerous opportunities to work with our Safer, Cleaner, Greener team are available across the Borough. These include the below routine work and tasks.

  • Seasonal bulb planting
  • Clearing vegetation ground clearance, hedge maintenance,
  • woodland coppicing,
  • path clearance,
  • Cleaning seat and painting  equipment maintenance
  • Cutting back shrubs
  • Sowing Urban Meadow mixes
  • Litter picking
  • Weeding and Balsam Bashing
