National Child Measurement Programme and School health days

The Schools and Families Better Living Team are commissioned by Public Health to collect the height and weight data for children in Reception and Year 6 in all of the Primary Schools across Calderdale as part of the National Child Measurement Programme.

Alongside this, they deliver school health days; a fun and interactive day of games and healthy lifestyle classroom based sessions aiming to educate young people on the benefits of leading a healthier and more active lifestyle

The healthy lifestyle sessions are interactive and topic matters can include:

  • Why is sleep important?
  • How should I start my day?
  • What is a balanced diet?
  • Why do we need to eat fruit and vegetables?
  • How much sugar is in my drink?
  • What makes us different?

The physical activity sessions can include:

  • Fitness Bingo
  • Games
  • Dance
  • Yoga
  • Parachute
  • Chair based exercise

The Team are also able to deliver parent workshops within schools as part of the health days; these can be tailored to meet the needs of your parents.
