Getting the basics right

5 Days of Action: Getting the basics right 9-13 June, Todmorden

Every day, the Council do a wide range of jobs you may not always be aware of. Some jobs, such as street cleaning, may be done in the early hours of the morning, while others, such as pest control, licensing and road safety may not be seen directly - but all contribute to making Calderdale a better place to live.

On 9-13 June 2017, we were out in Todmorden on the key themes of safer, cleaner, greener with partners including West Yorkshire Police and West Yorkshire Fire Service, Together Housing, Canal & River Trust and Incredible Edible Todmorden. See our images below of some on the things we did under the three themes of safer, cleaner & greener and you can also see more by searching #CleanCdale. Watch our short video too to find out more:

  • jet washing and de-odourising, including, outside the Town Hall;
  • the large and small sweeper were out every day from 5am;
  • clearing vegetation and cleaning away rubbish in key areas with partners from the Police and Fire Service;
  • tackling fly-tipping; and
  • removing graffiti.

Let's be greener

Some of the activities which took place included:

  • Incredible Edible and the Canal & River Trust planted new beds along the canal path.
  • New hanging baskets around the town centre.
  • Cutting back and clearing away vegetation.

We also had an information stall at the market, managed by Police, Together Housing and Environmental Health, the Environment Agency and partner agencies such as Calderdale Recovery Steps and WYFI. The stall had a plethora of leaflets and freebies. Lots of crime prevention advice was offered with seven crime prevention surveys being booked and two crime prevention talks also being booked for groups.
