It is an offence under the Dog Control Orders for dog walkers not to clean up immediately after their dog has fouled in a public place. An £80 Fixed Penalty Notice will be served upon persons who commit this offence.
What we can do
If a dog fouls and the person in charge of the dog fails to clean it up, we can:
- send a warning letter to the address, if known; or
- patrol the area with the intent to serve an fixed penalty notice. This is if the approximate time is known, within a two hour timescale; or
- record the details and patrol the worst affected areas in due course, if the above information is unknown.
If you cannot provide a time or description, but your area is badly fouled, the Safer Cleaner Greener Team may clean up the worst affected public areas.
